Hij ontving in 1903 de Nobelprijs voor de literatuur. Hij heeft vele gedichten geschreven, net als de tekst van het Noorse volkslied. Hij behoort tot Noorwegens vier grootste schrijvers, en was in zijn tijd zeer invloedrijk. Je kunt een rondleiding krijgen door het museum, of een historische\/culturele wandeling maken naar Prestnesset, Prestaksla en het Bj\u00f8rnstienpad. Het is een prachtige route via \u00c5ndalsnes.
