Lobsters and crabs

Autumn is the season to catch crabs and lobsters. During this period, they can be found in abundance in the fjords. With a trap and fish scraps, you can try your luck. A nice catch of brown crab, a lemon and some mayonnaise and you can enjoy a delicious meal!

Autumn is also a good season for lobsters. A meal you won't soon forget.

Other questions ?

What do I need in terms of equipment?
For sea fishing in Norway, you need strong rods and robust lines, as some fish species can be very powerful. Warm, waterproof clothing is also essential, as the weather can change quickly in Western Norway. If you don't have your own equipment, you can also rent packs from us.

Is it safe to fish at sea in Western Norway?
Yes, but the weather can turn quickly and general precautions are needed. In general, the weather in summer is fairly stable. The more you get out of season, the more important it is to pay attention. Follow the three pillars of safety:

  • Check the weather forecast before going out on the water. At the fiskesenter, we also keep an eye on the weather forecast and will warn you if we deem conditions unsafe.
  • Wear safety equipment such as life jackets. Wearing a life jacket is compulsory in Norway on the boats we rent out.
  • Look around you as you fish. You can always see bad weather coming in advance. You can return to port, or look for a harbour near your location. The many side fjords offer shelter if needed. You can also contact us if you have any concerns. We will give you information, or sail to you for help.

What about the sustainability of sea fishing in Norway?
Norway has strict rules and quotas to keep fish stocks healthy. Sustainability is at the heart of their fisheries policy. As a fisherman, you are encouraged to take only what you need and always follow local regulations. As a tourist, you are allowed to take home up to 15 kg of fish. As a registered sport fishing centre, we can prepare a catch document for customs.
