Stranda

Stranda is a small town between the fjords and the mountains. Above Stranda, in the mountains, is Stranda-fjellet. A gondola takes you to 1042 metres up the mountain. Stranda-fjellet is home to Western Norway's largest ski centre with seven ski lifts, 18 tracks and many opportunities for free-skiing. In summer, it is a great starting point for hiking in the mountains. The gondola makes it accessible even for people with lesser fitness. A return ticket costs NOK 280 p.p. A single costs NOK 200. You can choose to go up with the gondola, and then walk down. On the mountain is a cute little restaurant where you can enjoy a snack or a drink with stunning views of the surroundings.

The journey to Stranda takes about two hours and is definitely worth it. You’ll drive past the fjords and through the mountains. You can take the ferry to Sykkylven or Stranda, depending on your preference. Sykkylven is home to the Natural History Museum and the Furniture Museum. You can combine a visit to these with a trip to Stranda-fjellet.

It’s nice to do a circular route, for example by driving via Vatne and Sykkylven on the outward journey, and via Stranda and Vestes on the return. You’ll also pass Orskog-fjellet on the way. This is a smaller ski resort, and also a lovely area to drive through.
