Geiranger
The Geirangerfjord is 1 of Norway's biggest tourist attractions. Listed on the UNESCO world heritage list for its exceptional nature, it is also truly breathtakingly beautiful. Steep fjord walls, many waterfalls and spectacular viewpoints. It is definitely worth going to, even if it can be quite crowded in summer. You can combine it with a trip up Trollstigen, they are both on road 63. You then start at Åndalsnes, and drive on to Geiranger.
You can visit the Norwegian Fjord Centre near Geiranger. Here you will find information about the origins of this area, as well as its plant and animal life. For more information see www.fjordsenter.com .
Near the fjord centre runs the Vesteråsen hiking trail. This is a long hike. As it's already a long day's drive to Geiranger, it's probably better to drive to Vesterås, four kilometres from the centre of Geiranger. There you'll find a restaurant with a car park. From there, two walks start. One hike takes you behind the Storseterfossen. So you really are behind the waterfall! The walk takes about an hour there, and about an hour back. You can also walk to a beautiful viewpoint. This is half an hour there, and half an hour back. For more information visit https://www.fjords.com/hikes-from-vesteras-in-geiranger/ .
From Geiranger, you can take the ferry through the Geirangerfjord to Hellesylt. Here you will join road 60 and can drive back to Rekdal via Stranda. The ferry takes you across the fjord, past the spectacular waterfalls. The trip is about 20 km and takes a good hour.
From Ålesund, you can do a day cruise to Geiranger. This trip lasts 8-9 hours and takes you through beautiful areas. The cost is from 170,- Euro p.p.
